I see community as an essential element in our connection to others. Experiencing the changes to relationships and attitudes as you work in community for community is amazing.

I came to this great country from Europe when I already finished my education and even had a family. To come from another country and have to make new home in Canada is always challenging. For many of us it is accompanied by culture shock and awe. My family was accepted by Canada after we escaped communist Czechoslovakia. We came with no knowledge of English and barely $200.00 in our pocket so during our first year in Canada we were supported by taxpayers money; I will always feel thankful for the support we received from individual Canadians as well as from the Canadian society & try to return the favour in any way we can, for example by volunteering in community organizations.
